Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school, which means a majority of our children come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school district, like many others, has had budget cuts which has greatly impacted the supplies I am able to provide for my classroom. However, my students are eager and hungry to learn!

With Covid-19 many of our students were not provided opportunities to read with a book in their hand which has caused a drastic decline in student reading success.

Instead, students were doing work digitally. Many of my students are reluctant readers and writers and need instruction that will not only motivate them to write but bring them on grade level with their writing.

My Project

These amazing chapter books would give students more opportunities to read high quality and engaging texts with teacher support. Third grade students take are turned off by smaller texts and want books for "big kids". These new texts are available for my students that promote higher thinking and writing skills! These books provide different titles ranging in levels, with six copies of each book. Having these right in the classroom for my students rather than sharing with six other teachers would make a big difference for me and my students! The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be used to purchase creative and interactive lessons for students to use alongside the chapter books creating a more "book club" atmosphere.
