Help me give my students the manipulatives they need to learn their letter sounds with the alphabet, vowels, blends, and digraphs sound tubs and place value.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Primary grade students are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning letter names, imitate sounds, and learning to count. Others are reading, writing, and beginning to compute basic mathematics problems to prepare for word problems. In addition, my students love to learn new games, interact with their friends and boogie to to the latest hit songs.
In my classroom, we strive to build a community around what we have in common, our shared experiences, and helping each other grow better together, especially with the situations presented to us this year.
This past September, our school faced a hardship after Hurricane Florence and the historic flooding. We were unable to return to school and unable to retrieve any student or teaching items. However, each day my students arrive to school with positive attitudes to overcome the various obstacles they face within their own lives and school.
My Project
These manipulates will beneficial for my students who struggle with the basic concepts of letter sounds, long and short vowels, blends and digraphs. Also, several of my students struggle with the basic understanding of place value. Therefore, these items will help put emphasis on these skills to help my students advance further in reading and math.
The Letter Sound Tubs (alphabet, vowels, blends and digraphs) will help student sort various objects into the correct containers in which each lessons focus is on.
The Place Value manipulates will allow students to have a visual to understand concepts such as bundling and breaking apart when adding and subtracting with regrouping.
