My students need bright, colorful resources, such as markers, ink, and paper to help keep them motivated and engaged in learning. These materials will provide my students with rings of basic sight words to practice in class and at home.
Frederick Douglas once said, "Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." As the only reading interventionist at my elementary school, I spend my days helping students from first grade to 4th grade become free. While students are with me, we practice and develop reading skills. In order to acheive our freedom through reading we play lots of games and complete hands-on activities to learn everything from our letters to letter sounds to high frequency words and comprehension and writing skills.
Having colorful, engaging activities makes our learning more meaningful.
The students I serve are in the 20th percentile based on our benchmark assessments. They need engaging materials to keep them motivated to learn. These are many times students that need that kinesthic and tactile activity to make their learning permanent. I strive every day to provide these activities and lessons for my students.
My Project
Many parents just don't know what to do to help their child become a better reader. When asked, I always say read at home. Many parents want something more tangible. By using the colored paper, I can create colorful rings of basic sight words for the students to take home and practice. We will then used the word cards in a game during class.
Imagine bringing home a ring of brightly colored word cards that you and your mom or dad can practice.
This gives the parent the something tangible they are looking for, and it helps the students develop the skills they need to become a better reader. These materials will help me provide my students with materials to use in class and at home to put them on the right track to become a better reader.
