Serging Forward With Service!

Help me give my students the opportunity to take their sewing skills and service experiences to the next level with threads and a serger.

My Students

Our students are a bright group with diverse interests! As the library, we are at the heart of the school, and there's not a single student that doesn't pass through our world at least a few times a month. We are a STEM school, and we also offer an Agricultural Education program as well as many AP and dual credit college courses.

Our school is in a relatively rural town, and we are the only high school in the area.

This allows a community feeling to remain a top priority of our staff. It is this community spirit that sets us apart from many schools around us, and it's something we're very proud of.

My Project

Our Make For Good makerspace has been open for a little more than a year and is adding new participants every day. Since its introduction in May of 2017, more than 100 students at our small school have completed hundreds of donations for now 16 nonprofits, both local and international. This allows our students to engage in service as part of their school day and to take advantage of the health benefits of crafting and volunteering.

This project will allow students that come to our compassionate makerspace to develop even more robust sewing skills by learning how to use a serger.

While our space is equipped with sewing machines that have been used to craft everything from fidget blankets for dementia patients to dresses for young girls in Africa, we want to be able to add projects to our activities that make use of a serger machine and new colored threads.
