My Students

The students in our ABA strand are primarily children diagnosed with autism. We have 8 classrooms serving students from pre-K (age 3) to 8th grade. The teachers in these classrooms focus on everything from academics to self-help skills like washing hands.

Our students are amazing individuals who work every day to overcome differences in learning styles, communication, and socialization.

They are curious, energetic, and passionate about all sorts of interests and hobbies. They come to school each day ready to learn and our teachers work tirelessly to make that happen!

My Project

Our students are learning different ways to self-regulate in order to better access the curriculum. One of the ways in which they do this is using what we call "fidget tools." These items (Tangle Jr., Theraputty, stretch snakes, jellyfish and more) allow them to keep their hands busy while they stay seated at a table or on the rug during lessons.

We like to expose our students to lots of different types of tools, from putty to things that vibrate, to see what type of sensory input is most successful in helping them focus.

These materials will be used in several classrooms to help us achieve this goal.
