It's hard to focus when you are overstimulated or feeling tired.
The students that will benefit from this project are all students with autism spectrum disorder.
We have three self-contained classroom for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Many of our students struggle with sensory needs, such as, self-stimulating or being unable to focus. The students participate in a very structured environment to allow them to be more successful.
My Project
The requested fidgets (hairy tangle, massage ball, sand ball) would be useful for students that are antsy or cannot sit still. The fidgets will give my students something to keep their hands busy while paying attention. The therapy brushes will be used to calm students who may be overstimulated. The chewy tubes will be used for students who need oral motor assistance. Fine-motor tasks, such as, lacing cards and twist and write pencils will be used to help my students meet goals.
These materials will help my autism students work on goals, behavior, and fine-motor skills.
Sensory needs will be met more accurately with these materials. The students will benefit greatly.
