My students are in Kindergarten, First, and Second grades. They all have special needs, and those vary from ADHD to Autism, to physical impairments, to learning disabilities. They spend a lot of their day in their general education classroom. Parts of their day are spent with me servicing them inside that classroom, and parts of their day are spent coming to my classroom to learn.
My kids have to persevere their whole lives because of the struggles they face.
Because of this, I really analyze what they know, what they don't know, what they need, and how I can help them grow. I correspond with their parents a lot because I know we are a team in helping their kids (aka my kids) succeed. This proposal would help me in that endeavor.
My Project
My students often ask for the sensory wiggle seats and slant-boards that I am borrowing from my occupational therapist. Sitting on these wedge-shaped seats really helps my students bounce a bit, so they can get their wiggles out, and be better focused to learn. I am borrowing one, and my students literally argue with each other about who gets to use it.
Now that is self-advocacy!
They know what they need! Please help me give my students multiple wiggle seats so that they can better focus on instruction. I am also asking for other sensory items they like; some like to squeeze stress balls, and others like fidgets in their hands while they work. Still, others need safe things to chew on to satisfy their oral sensory needs, so I am asking for lego shaped necklaces that they like. Slant boards can also help my students focus, especially for those who have difficulty with eye tracking. They truly make a big difference in my student's lives!
