I want to give my students a special opportunity to link their at-school and at-home learning. My students' reading takes off the most when they read at their level at home with their awesome parents, in addition to what I read with them at school. I like to empower students, by simply handing them a tub of books at their level, and letting them choose what they want to read. Since they have the ability to read all of the books in that particular tub, they have the freedom to sift through and pick anything they find interesting, and borrow it. They typically take 5-6 home at a time, and when they are finished reading with parents, they return the books and borrow new ones. My current tubs are cardboard and are falling apart. I'd love to replace them so students can really dig into the tubs as they explore their options. I'd also like to add some nonfiction books to my collection because my kiddos really love reading facts!
