Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our Newcomer Academy students are adjusting to a new country, a new language, and a new school environment — all at once. Many carry stress from big life changes. At school, we want them to feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

To help meet their social-emotional needs, I am requesting sensory materials for our counselor’s office and modeling clay for classroom Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons.

Sensory tools give students healthy ways to manage strong emotions. When students feel overwhelmed, tactile items and calming materials help them regulate their bodies and refocus. In the classroom, clay will be used during SEL activities to help students express feelings, practice coping strategies, and build emotional vocabulary — even when language barriers exist.

When students feel emotionally supported, they are better able to engage, participate, and succeed academically.

Your donation will help our newcomer students build resilience, confidence, and lifelong coping skills. Thank you for helping us care for the whole child.
