My Students

The Special Education team at BES is committed to providing our students with a friendly, inviting classroom environment that meets every student's needs and promotes their success. We currently have 17 students that we work with on a daily basis, which span all grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. We have numerous other students that we work with informally to assist with interventions. Our students have a variety of disabilities; including, Autism, Other Health Impairments (ADHD), Specific Learning Disabilities, and Emotional Disabilities. We work hard to meet each student's individual needs based upon their strengths and areas of weakness.

Sensory processing plays a critical role in how our student's function, learn, and interact at school.

The Special Education team would like to expand our sensory tools and supports. The students will be able to use these tools in both our special education classroom, as well as in the general education classroom. These tools will help our students focus, feel comfortable in their surroundings, and reach their full potential to succeed in school!

My Project

These sensory tools will help students improve their focus, promote self-regulation, and increase participation in the classroom. Each tool will be available to meet the needs of every student who enters our classroom. The alternative seating will be used during small groups and individual instruction with students. The chair bands will be used to help fidgety students release some of their energy and remain focused on classwork. The visual timers are very beneficial for student breaks. All of these tools can also be used outside of the resource room in the general education setting.

Our goal is to provide a warm, inviting, sensory-friendly environment that is beneficial to all students.
