This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Meet the Snowmen! My preschool students brainstormed ideas and voted on this to be our class name. In addition to our classroom name, each student selected an animal symbol to represent themselves. My students are very curious about what it means to be a snowman and their animal symbols. I am constantly looking for ways to make connections and make learning personal to them.

My preschool students are just beginning their school experience and I am honored to have the role of encouraging their first love of education.

My Project

Each student in our classroom selected an animal to be their classroom symbol. Throughout the year we research our animals' characteristics and their habitats.

The see-thru sensory table will allow us to create habitats representing where our animals live and be able to observe them from 3 vantage points.

We can alternate filling it with water, sand and soil to create a habitat for our animals. Then, we can use our toy replica animals to act out how the animals engage in their environment. I envision us making predictions about how our animals interact with their environment and creating observational drawings from what we can see in the see-thru sensory table.
