This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This school year, I am teaching 34 prek students who are eager and ready to learn. Most of my students come from low income families and for many of my students, this is their first year in a school setting. I teach in an urban district where unfortunately we do not have funding for these resources.
I want my incoming group of students to have access to sensory materials that will help them stay calm and engage in exploration in the classroom.
My students bring a variety of backgrounds and experiences to the classroom. While I cannot control their lives outside of the classroom, I can make sure that the classroom is a safe and engaging place for them when they are here.
My Project
My students enjoy the different activities that they are offered during play time. They especially enjoy learning through sensory activities. Our district does not have the budget to provide our classroom with the materials needed to create a sensory station to use during our play time.
A sensory table and sensory materials will allow me to engage my students in sensory play that is beneficial to their early development.
The materials in this project will provide my students with what we need to create a sensory table for play time. Through sensory play, my students will build language skills, fine motor skills, and sensory play can help calm students. Sensory play gives every student an opportunity to engage in exploration, question asking, and be successful in their interactions and play.
