My co-worker and I are creating a sensory room for our students. She is the Pre-k InD teacher and I am the K-1 InD teacher. Many of our students have sensory, physical, communication, adaptive or behavioral challenges that make learning in a typical environment challenging. They require a multi-sensory approach to learning. Many of the children we service do not yet possess the skills to recognize, label and manipulate their feelings. Many of my students come from low income families. Your help and support will go a long way.
My Project
These materials will meet our students' unique and individualized sensory needs. The students in my classroom have a large range of sensory needs; some are extra sensitive to light, sound, touch, smell and taste, while others have trouble registering these senses at home and in school.
Many of the children we service do not yet possess the skills to recognize, label and manipulate their feelings.
The items I have chosen will help my students self-regulate and attend more fully in my classroom. The body sox provides students with sensory input when they are getting overstimulated in the classroom. The bubble machine is calming for students with sensory overload. Auto Shake and Shine Bubble Tube Lamp is a great tool for the students to look at to calm themselves down. The Changing Modes Night Light and Built-in Mini Music Player will create a calming atmosphere. The Chewy tubes are oral stimulation tools that my students use to provide sensory input in the jaw.
