Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an Early Childhood Special Education classroom, each child that comes into my class has a disability. The main disabilities seen in the classroom are Speech and Language disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Each student has individual needs and those needs should be met on an individual basis.
Students struggle with communication, sensory integration, understanding and following basic directions. Our goal is to help students become successful and overcome the difficulties they face. Many of our students lack the ability to communicate their basic needs, a very sad problem that we need to fix.
My Project
All of my students struggle with language, whether receptive or expressive, or both, these students need natural opportunities to learn. Learning takes place through play and language opportunities are unlimited when a child is engaged in play.
Sensory toys help to decrease fear by turning focus to specific item for students with special needs and this allow them to play & learn naturally.
Help me to redirect students focus, into a calm and peaceful state through these sensory materials, so that natural learning can take place. Special needs students need the same opportunities to learn at school while feeling safe doing so!
