My self-contained K-3 Special Education class is bursting with energy! Some students are just beginning to recognize letters and numbers while others are adding, subtracting, and writing their own names. No matter what level, all of my students benefit from hands-on, multi-sensory learning that is tailored to their specific needs.
The world is full of wonderful possibilities for my students!
At their tender age, they are excited and willing to learn! It is that enthusiasm that pushes me to discover the best ways to teach to all of the individual learning differences in the room. From number task boxes to weekly STEAM projects, there are endless ways to reach and grow with these special learners. I am so excited to see how my students will blossom into knowledgeable, independent, and fearless young people one day.
My Project
The balance balls, wiggle seats and wobble stools will give my young, special learners a chance to move while staying engaged in activities that teach letter recognition, early reading skills, and hands-on math activities. The rectangle table will help us use the space more efficiently and allow my students to be seated near each other for small group activities.
Flexible seating options for my students will promote independence and positive choices, as well as, self-control.
Being able to choose a desired seat and use that seat properly within the classroom will not only encourage my students by meeting their sensory needs, but also challenge them to make effective choices that will benefit their individual needs.
