Sensory Seating For Sensory Seeking Kindergarteners

Help me give my students opportunities to feed their senses with alternative seating with these inflatable ball chairs and coredisk sensory cushions and lap pads.

My Project

The materials I am requesting are materials that feed the senses of my active Kindergarten students. Kindergarteners must meet the demand of a more rigorous academic schedule these days than we did when we were their age, and often with fewer movement breaks. I have found that when they have opportunities to have alternative seating throughout the classroom, behaviors and focus improve!

I already provide my students with opportunities to sit on the floor with lap desks and wiggle stools in small group work, but with the addition of a set of ball chairs as well as sensory disks, both will assist in necessary regular movement and focus.

The ball chairs will be used much like our wobble stools and the sensory disks can either be used to sit on or are weighted to be used in the lap. Studies have shown many advantages to products such as weighted blankets to be used as a calming technique. These weighted discs are easily portable from seat to lap and can be cleaned easily in between uses, unlike a weighted blanket.
