Sensory Sand for Sensory Seekers!

My Students

My students are in Pre-k and Kindergarten and are part of a self-contained behavior intervention program where we work on improving their behavior to get back into the mainstream classroom. We are a transient program so students come and go throughout the school year. We are close to a military base so many of my students come from military homes and a large majority of them receive free or reduced lunches.

My students are smart, funny and loving kids who are full of potential but struggle with basic classroom behavior.

Like any classroom, we have our good days and our bad days, but every day we are making progress!

My Project

With sensory play, our opportunities are endless! Research shows that not only does sensory play stimulate the brain creating new neural pathways but it also improves motor skills, cooperation, communication and can help calm a struggling student.

Young children learn best through play, combining play with sensory input gives my students meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

The sensory table will be used to incorporate hands-on learning across all subjects. It will also help provide necessary "breaks" for students who are struggling and need a moment to refocus. The table items and sand will be changed out frequently to correspond with our weekly themes.
