This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is my first year teaching at this school and I want to give the students an opportunity to learn and grow in a healthy environment. The room I am working in is very small and it does not live up to its potential as a sensory/deescalation room.
Students of each elementary grade-level will have access to this room and they are students who strive to meet their goals.
There are many cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds mixed in to this group of students, but I believe we have one common goal: being our best.
My Project
The current sensory room that I am working with has little to no sensory items for the students who will be utilizing the space. The room is a shared office for multiple departments.
I strongly desire to provide students with sensory processing difficulties a safe space to deescalate.
Students of all grade levels in this elementary school will have access to this room, but it is not properly equipped to accommodate the students and their unique needs. These materials will be used to give the current sensory space a make-over that will improve the learning and behavior management experience for the students in special education at this school.
