My Students

My students continuously need different avenues to receive sensory input. Rocking chairs would provide a soothing activity that will help them learn calming techniques while receiving needed sensory input.

My students are from a lower income county in southern Indiana and have autism and/or a moderate level of cognitive disability.

There are 2 school districts within our county and all of the children that qualify are educated in my classroom at the middle school level.

My Project

Children with autism are continuously seeking some type of sensory input, with rocking chairs this is a soothing type of sensory input which will calm them and help them to transition to another more challenging activity. Utilizing the rocking chair will also open up social interaction opportunities.

With your help, my students will have a great opportunity to gain soothing sensory input and then proceed to additional educational activities that will help to prepare them for the work force and independent living.
