My Project

As a preschool special education teacher, my students encounter moments of dysregulation throughout their school day. Incorporating break time in a calm, relaxing environment can help regulate students and support their well being. When children are relaxed they are more readily available to learn. I have seen how sensory breaks help regulate children who have been overstimulated. After children have had a chance to relax, they can refocus their attention on learning activities and are better able to retain the information that is being taught.

These sensory items, like the sensory cuddle box and bubble tubes, will provide the children with a therapeutic space to deescalate before returning to their classroom ready to learn and engage in relationships with adults and peers.
