Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a 3rd- and 4th-grade cluster program servicing students with intellectual disabilities. Many of my children are bilingual students who come from low-income families here in Chicago.
These children continue to inspire me every day!
They are ready to engage and learn no matter what obstacles are put in their path. There is a lot to learn from their positive attitudes. My students love to explore through hands-on, fun activities and I am committed to providing them with the experiences they deserve.
My Project
My students with significant special needs love to use their senses to explore, play and learn. Most importantly, they use sensory materials to help regulate their emotions and attention. We use a variety of fidgets and hands on materials in our classroom to provide sensory breaks in between lessons and have found it greatly improves active participation and comprehension.
Children learn best and retain the most information when they engage their senses and are able to self regulate.
With your generous donation, each of my students will have the opportunity to engage in sensory breaks with high quality materials like kinetic sand, air dry clay and slime.
