Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom have moderate/severe disabilities ranging from autism to down syndrome to cerebral palsy and others. They require sensory breaks throughout the day in order to help regulate their bodies and to be successful. Therapeutic sensory equipment can foster self-regulation, self-expression and socialization. Most of my students are non-verbal so they benefit from therapeutic sensory activities to let out some of their frustrations because they cannot verbally express it.
Most of my students come from very low income families and they don't have access to kinesthetic and sensory activities at home that will encourage movement, focus, calmness and socialization .
A sensory diet is very important for students in this population. They should be able to access sensory breaks/equipment several times a day.
My Project
The sensory wrap,trideer ball chair,rocker, and trampoline that I am requesting will make a big difference in the lives of my students. The students in my class come from very low income families and do not have access to sensory equipment at home.
Research shows that sensory play is essential to facilitate learning and daily functioning of students with disabilities.
This will be a fabulous addition to our daily routine and it will help diminish some of the behaviors and frustrations for students.
By donating to my project you will be giving my students the opportunity to successfully participate in everyday activities. Students that process information differently will be able to use the equipment for the kinesthetic breaks they need to help them throughout the day.
