My students need sensory toys such as sensory noodles, sensory balls, sensory beads, bubblers, and see-through activity balls for our classroom sensory stations.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"Inside every child, there is a brilliant student." Marva Collins
My classroom is an autistic support classroom consisting of seven 1st and 2nd graders.
My seven students range from 6 years old to 8 years old and are identified on the autism spectrum. They have significant communication, social and behavioral needs. 2 of my students are non-verbal. My students come to school with an abundant amount of energy and ready to learn. A typical school day can be overwhelming and stressful for a student with autism. My students require many sensory breaks to calm themselves down. However, being a first year teacher, I do not have the appropriate sensory tools to provide them with the sensory breaks they need. My school is a low socioeconomic school. We are a Title 1 school and most of my students are free/reduced lunch.
My Project
My students need products that will promote communication, social interaction, and behavior regulation. The products I am requesting, such as sensory beads, sensory balls, sensory noodles, See-Through Activity Balls, bubbler set, squishy sensory balls, are sensory-related materials that will provide a tactile and visual input that my children with autism find calming. These products will also promote social interaction and communication with my students during sensory breaks.
By supporting my project, you will give my students with autism the opportunity to safely cope with the stress of the school day and the frustration that my students often face when dealing with their behavioral and social needs.
