Sensory Overload

My students need six sound blocking earmuffs and weighted blankets to keep us calm. To help stay seated when we may have the wiggles, we need four chair wedges and eight fidgets for our busy hands

My Students

I teach children in grades K-2 who all have autism. My students are in both my class and their general education class daily. My job is to provide a safe place for them to learn and to modify their general education class so they can be successful alongside their peers.

My students all have autism.

They are all incredibly smart and at or above grade level academically! Most of my students require modifications to the typical classroom to fully access information like their peers. They have trouble taking in too much information and easily get overstimulated. They often take sensory breaks to regulate their bodies so they can get back to learning. My students are amazing and inspiring!

My Project

My students need six sound blocking earmuffs and weighted blankets to keep us calm. To help stay seated when we may have the wiggles, we need four chair wedges and eight fidgets for our busy hands My students will be able to use these sensory tools in my classroom and take them to their general education class. Their chair wedges will allow them to sit longer even when they are feeling wiggly. Their hand fidgets give them an appropriate way to keep their hands busy while staying on task. The weighted lap blankets and sound blocking ear muffs are for my students when they need help to calm down or to block out extra noise. My students are incredibly smart! These extra tools will allow them to be more successful and stay with their general education class even longer throughout the day.

Right now my students have to leave their general education class to get a sensory break.

Having these sensory tools available to them to take to their general education class will help them be more successful in their class. My students are so bright they just need help regulating their bodies so they are ready to learn. My students will be more at ease and successful learning beside their peers. A few sensory tools will go a long way in helping my students succeed!
