Sensory Needs Classroom Wishlist

Help me give my students the supplies they need to meet their accommodations and learn in a emotionally and environmentally healthy classroom. The air purifier, for example, is a requirement for a medically vulnerable student.

My Project

My school, by percentage, has the highest number of student accommodations (IEP; 504) in our district. The goal of this project is to provide materials that will support their unique sensory and social needs.

I have worked with this student population for four years and I understand how critical the classroom environment is to their academic success.

A few examples of this are: 1) Students are more relaxed and focused when we use indirect lighting rather than overhead lights; 2) Students enjoy the autonomy of selecting their own fidgets for class time; 3) Students are sensitive to the unsafe environmental particles that have accumulated in our 50-year-old building; 4) Students are drawn to colorful whiteboard text; 5) Students benefit from games that encourage socialization.

I am fortunate to work with students who trust me enough to express their needs. If able--financially--it is my responsibility to meet those needs and create a safe, healthy baseline that encourages the intellectual freedom to think and learn.
