My Students

The diversity in our classroom reflects that of our beautiful city. My students are native speakers and English Language Learners. They speak many languages and represent even more countries and cultures. They are scientists, artists, mathematicians, readers, writers, builders, and dreamers. They are full of wonder and curiosity. We are just four and five-years old and are some of the youngest learners in our large urban K-8 school. With your generous donation, we can provide additional resources and experiences to maximize their learning this year.

My Project

Our classroom is now over a decade old and some of our materials and furnishings are well worn and need to be replaced. In this project, I am hoping to acquire a new sensory table for my students. Sensory tables are sometimes called sand and water tables, and quite often that's what you will find inside them! For this project, I have also found some other fun materials, such as buckwheat hulls, water beads, and small figurines.

There are so many reason why a sensory table is an essential tool in an Early Childhood classroom.

Playing with sand, water, or other tactile materials is good for children! At the sensory table, children develop fine motor skills, language skills, and cognitive skills. Additionally, sensory play also helps children develop social emotional skills, creative skills, and can be wonderfully soothing and relaxing.
