The items I have requested for this Donor's Choose project will help my students especially as they enter first grade with letter recognition and then build on the sound and letter skills to build words.
The wikki sticks are an interactive and sensory building tool that will allow students to form letters and practice sounds. The sand and sand trays will allow students to not only build letters but also build words as they strengthen their reading skills. The sensory kits will allow students to have hands on experience with different items found in various habitats. The wiggle seats will allow students to focus more clearly if they have somewhere to channel their excess energy in a productive manner.
Adding the sensory function to student learning not only gives students hands on practice in reading skills but also gives them more opportunity to build their neural pathways to increase learning.
