This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
STEM is the center of learning in our classroom. My students walk into the classroom every morning with enthusiasm and excitement for what the day is going to bring. I start each morning by welcoming them with, "Good morning best classroom in the school" and they always respond with "Good morning best teacher in the universe."
While I am definitely not the best teacher in the universe, the relationship I have with my second graders is an awesome one!
My students help everyone around them and this is a chance I have to give back to them.
My Project
Inclusivity is essential in my classroom. I do everything I can to provide an environment that is safe and calm for all of my students. At the moment, I have a "Peace Path" with calming colors and steps to help regulate your emotions, but sometimes my students just need something to keep by their desk. Sometimes they just need to be able to move around a bit. And sometimes, a simple band attached to their chairs, allowing them to bounce in their desks, is enough!
With your donations, I will purchase the Chair Bands for their feet to bounce on, allowing them to regain focus on their work.
I will also be able to provide students who need a moment by themselves some sensory friendly gadgets to use including the fidgets, sensory slime, stress and massage rings, and a few visual sensory items that use oil and calming colors to help students focus and relax. I also need foam kneeling pads and cushions for flexible seating around my classroom.
The squeeze toys I've asked for will specifically be useful for my students with sensory and emotional difficulties. Sometimes the small things make the biggest difference.
For my students that work better on the floor, I've also requested some knee pads and floor cushions so they are able to comfortably sit while they work.
This project will ensure I am able to increase the inclusivity in my classroom. These items will help more than you know!
