Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a classroom of 8 wonderful students who are all on different stages on the Autism Spectrum. Everyday is an adventure in my classroom and I attempt to provide my students access to as many sensory items as possible to decrease their anxiety, agitation and stress so they can focus on their learning.

Giving them the Sensory Tent | Calming Hideout for Kids would be a dream come true addition to my sensory room, being able to go into a closed area where my student can deescalate behaviors and refocus is my goal.

I had a fish tank growing up and loved to watch my father feed them everyday and would sit there for hours watching the colorful fish swim back and forth. The Play learn Fake Fish Tank Mini Bubble Lamp fish tank is a smaller, student friendly version of this, but would still provide my students with the same chance to watch the "fish swim.

Finally, having a Montessori Busy Board for Toddlers portable sensory board that can be taken with the student to settings outside the classroom would increase my students ability to go out into general education and assemblies knowing they have materials at their finger tip reach to decrease their behaviors.
