My Students
My class is full of amazing students that happen to learn differently from most other children. They are bright and energetic, ready to learn, but in need of motivating stimuli. My students love music, and learn best when they can move their little bodies to the beat!
My students attend a special day class for the severely developmentally delayed, located on a public school campus.
They need lots of repetition, visual, audial and tactile stimuli to learn. I look forward to going to work just to see their eager faces when they get off the bus in the morning. Many of my students have sensory issues and need physical and musical activities to help them focus. Although my students are excited about school, they have a hard time learning by traditional means. My staff and I push our students to their fullest potential through lessons that develop academic skills as well as self help, behavioral and motor skills. Our program is well rounded, though we are lacking many supplies to keep our students motivated with new material. These kids are great and deserve the best education that we can give them.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting would really help our students to make more progress on their goals, increase their skills and have a richer, more exciting day at school. The medicine balls would be used to help our students with sensory needs. The students can use the medicine balls as well as the playground balls and other outside equipment in team building relays and other activities during PE. My students love music and would learn about body parts, animals, letter sounds and an array of other topics by listening to the music that I selected. The parachute is one of their favorite activities. It would help them learn to follow directions in a non-threatening and fun way. The learning possibilities are endless with these different items. From music to movement supplies, these students would be able to strengthen their skills across the board!
The students in my class will have a harder time in life than most of their typically developing counterparts.
It is my job to help close the gap between where their skill levels are and where they could be. It is hard to do this without better materials. With budget cuts, I am not able to provide my students with supplies needed to make learning more accessible. These materials will make a huge difference in student learning, and put big smiles on their faces!
