Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are humble, highly routined, structured, kind hearted and very determined. My students face challenges that most of us see as typical everyday normal tasks. I teach students with Austism and I love it! Everyday is unique but rewarding. My students find interest in things that we take for granted and understand things in ways we could never think of.

The one thing that could help them improve how they learn and cope with everyday task is a Sensory Classroom.

Autism’s symptoms often include difficulty processing sensory information such as textures, sounds, smells, tastes, brightness and movement. These difficulties can make ordinary situations feel overwhelming. As such, they can interfere with daily function and even isolate individuals and their families. The rationale is that by intergrating sensory resources to the classroom and allowing students to spends time in actitivites with sensory items it will help the make sense of the information they receive and use it to better participate in everyday tasks.

My Project

All my students want to learn! The plan is to provide an environment to meet their sensory needs, thus aiding in their learning and coping process. The items on this list were carefully selected to help my students cope with everyday situations. Specifically the light covers will filter the flourescent lights that are known for bothering them to the point of causing headches or disturbinng and disrupting their learning environment. The sound counceling headphones for times when it is too loud and it aggrivates their physical and emotional state. Also the weighted blanket will be used to provide pressure necessary to calm students down during times when anxiety and frustration hit their limits.

Students with sensory issues need tangible items to help them refocus or cope and maintain themselves in an activity or a task.

The items for my project will all serve a good purpose and allow my students to strive. These items are durable and made for the classroom. The vendors I selected create and sell materials for the special needs classroom This will be essential for my classroom and provide my students comfort, strategy, focus, and meet their everyday sensory needs. Thank you for taking time to read about my project and looking to help.
