Sensory Input While Learning

Help me give my students all the sensory needs to help aid in their education.

My Students

I teach the severe special education students who have had a lot of changes the last few years. These students need more than just school supplies to help them get through the day. Most of my kids really want to be heard and just need a teacher who shows that care and is trying to meet those needs. Sensory time plays such an integral part in their education and daily life, and I want to have options for them in my classroom to receive the sensory input while learning.

My Project

Many of the students in my Special Education life skills classroom have many different motor, physical, and sensory needs. My class particularly has had some difficult turnover in the past year and the current class lacks those things.

The sensory input items will be used simultaneously with their academic task and while working on their educational and life goals in class to regulate behaviors during class.

My students need a variety of ways to meet those sensory needs such as wiggle chairs, weighted blankets, compression swings, and so many more to help them regulate and focus during their classwork time will make a dramatic change for these growing teens and their behaviors. We need a comfortable, flexible, and safe learning environment that no matter the need or disability the student has there is access to their needs to help them learn and grow with the world around them.
