My Project

Our school is transitioning from having one Transitional Kindergarten classroom to having two Transitional Kindergarten classrooms. Providing our youngest students with the opportunity to explore their senses with a sensory bin will give them a rich Transitional Kindergarten experience. This sensory bin will tie the outdoors to the indoors through imagination, exploration and physical awareness.

The goal of our sensory bin would be to provide fine motor development that is tied thematically to our curriculum.

Each month we have different learning themes, such as flower shop, pizza store, butterflies, among many other themes. For each theme, the content of the sensory bin would be changed out to promote exploration and connection to real world concepts.

At our school, we have Special Day Classes, who come in daily for time in the general education setting. The students would greatly benefit from the calming sensory experience as well. The addition of this sensory bin would be truly transformative to our Transitional Kindergarten experience!
