My Project

I am a PreK 3 teacher who is working to build a fun and educational sensory center for my class! As young learners, my students are just now exploring sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The materials in this list will help us explore sight and touch specifically. The learning materials such the Lakeshore Translucent Bugs will go on our light table which is a new addition to our classroom. The sand, ice cream scoops, and Lakeshore 4 Way Tops will keep our sensory bins tidy and ready to use! These centers will remain available to students throughout the year so items need to be rotated out frequently which is why I have asked similar, but not identical items.

Student are designed to explore the world through their 5 Senses making sensory play is key for a child's development!

Therefore, these items will not be just for fun but learning as well! Sensory play promotes independent thinking and exploration as well as an understanding of cause and effect! As students build with the Lakeshore Crystal Climbers they will make connections with how light moves through objects. When students mold the sensory sand they will strengthen fine motor skills such as grip and pinch. The benefits of these items for my students are immeasurable.
