My Students
I currently work in a moderate/severe special day class in a low-income and crime-riddled community in Richmond, CA. My students range in ages from 3-5 and have varying disabilities. My students currently have a diagnosis of autism and intellectual disability.
Although many of my students are non-verbal and have been diagnosed with learning disorders, they are all very smart, funny, and a joy to have around.
These kids have personalities that are out of this world and will show you that despite having a disability, nothing will hold them down.
My Project
Items such as the glitter wands, art water mat and kinetic sand can help provide my students with the necessary sensory input to help them regulate themselves in order to be fully engaged and maximize their learning throughout the school day.
These sensory items will help create learning opportunities that will give my students the chance to create and learn while using all of their senses.
While manipulating and playing with these sensory items, my students will use their fine motor skills that will help strengthen their hand and finger muscles and help improve their eye hand coordination while at the same time learning social/emotional skills through sharing, cooperating and interacting with one another.
