The cost of a variety of sensory input supplies and CD's, including a spice set, the Kids in Motion CD Library, Baby Einstein Baby Van Gogh, and Baby Einstein Baby da Vinci videos, is $737, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
I am a new teacher in NYC, with a class of twelve students who are severe and multiply handicapped. The students are of the mental ages 1 month to 1 year. These students could greatly benefit from a sensory integration center in the classroom. In the center the students could be stimulated through all 5 senses while receiving a lot of mental and physical input.
1. Sight could be stimulated through educational baby Einstein videos
2. A ball pit would be a great place for the students to relax and be physically stimulated through touch using physical therapy
3. A set of spices would be stimulating for those in the class who are visual and hearing impaired
4. Vibrating toothbrushes would provide the class with oral stimulation necessary for mouth posturing using speech therapy
5. Books on tape, and movement CD's would provide the students with individual choices for listening activities
All twelve of the students in my classroom are wheelchair bound and would participate in this center activity daily. Many of these students do not learn in a traditional manner and we are not provided with materials that are beneficial to this type of learner.
