My Project

The youngest students at our school are curious, creative and lots of fun! This year, the art room serves almost all of our substantially separate special education classrooms - more than ever before! In the art room, we love to paint, draw, cut, glue and build. These wonderful art making experiences would be further enhanced and made more accessible with a sensory zone in the art room.

With these larger sensory items, our special education students will experience a balance between fine motor art activities and gross motor physical play.

Sensory items help students, particularly students on the autism spectrum, regulate their emotions and provide valuable sensory input necessary for processing information.

We are excited to incorporate a sensory zone into our art room set up and routine.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
