I have a special education classroom full of energetic, eager to learn 3-5-year-olds. We are a cross-categorical preschool classroom containing students with disabilities ranging from autism to moderate intellectual disabilities and a little bit of everything in between.
Each day we try to incorporate activities to encourage growth in the areas of cognition, communication, adaptive skills, fine and gross motor needs, sensory skills, and personal social skills.
We do that with circle time, centers, speech, art, math, and literacy activities each day and social studies and science once a week.
Many of my students just turned 3 and are still "getting used to school" by learning routines, basic daily routines, and safety rules, and interacting socially with their peers and adults in the classroom and school. My students love to learn and just want to be "normal" kids who go to school and have fun.
My Project
Someone in a preschool group I'm a member of posted the most amazing light table that also doubles as a 2 bin sensory table that is the perfect kids height. The bins also double as storage when the lids are purchased as well, which will eliminate out ziplock baggy storage we're currently using in the storage cabinet. My students really love the sensory table this year and we've been trying to switch it out bi-monthly. This table and bins would give us the flexibility and ease of changing out the table to go along with our themes it will be a much better and neater way to store our current 12+ themed materials. I cannot wait to stay using this table!!
