Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in grades kindergarten through second grade. All students have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder and are truly one of a kind. Each student has their own personality, strengths, and weaknesses that make my classroom very unique.
My students motivation and love for learning is high.
They come from all different backgrounds and never let their disability define them. They love interacting with each other inside the classroom and other typical peers outside of the classroom.
The students in my classroom remind me every day why I became a teacher. The little milestones that other students reach are huge milestones for my students. Every time one of my students reaches a milestone it brings such joy to not only their faces but also mine.
My Project
My students will use these items in the classroom to help themselves with their sensory needs. They will be able to learn, while still having fun and playing. The sand and water tables will allow the students to get hands-on with learning. Since not all students will be able to be at the sand and water tables at the same time, the Magna-Tiles will allow for another center for hands on play.
Children with autism benefit highly when they are able to meet their sensory needs.
With these items, I will be able to have a fully functioning sensory area inside my class. I will be able to have two different sides: a water side and a sand side.
In the sand side, I will be able to put learning items in the sand, such as cvc puzzle pieces. With the water side, I can use the floating alphabet balls and the floating building set. Also, I will be able to contain any messes with the rug, which will allow for easy clean up of spills.
