Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love how eager and motivated to learn my students are. My second grade students come from families that struggle economically, so my goal is to always make learning as fun and engaging as possible for them. My class of students this year loves using markers when we draw pictures of our writing. The stools, chart tablets, scented markers and supplies will be used for our independent learning centers. All the materials will help my students express their creativity in various ways. In our class writing center, I like to provide my students with different supplies such as flair pens and sharpie markers to allow children the chance to explore writing utilizing new writing tools. This provides students with experiences that make writing fun and exciting for them. I also differentiate the learning for my students in the writing center by writing centers starters on sentence strips. This allows those students to be independent and gain confidence when they write. I also love using chart paper in the writing center. The children love when I make anchor charts to assist them in their work, but they also love when they get to make the anchor chart for their peers to reference and use. The laminating sheets are used to preserve student work and the sentences starter strips which are kept in the writing center.

My students are noticeably more engaged in their work when it is hands-on, minds-on, and utilizes fun supplies within the given lesson to help them achieve their goals.

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because they will be motivated and engaged to complete the assigned tasks in their independent learning center work. For example, having the flexible seating stools allows for higher engagement during guided reading groups, independent working time and also during whole group instruction.
