Help me give my students a construction playset, stress balls, and other sensory items to use in our classroom to help students gain independence in emotional control.

My Students

My classroom is unique, and I teach a life skills class. Each of my students is gifted in their own beautiful ways. My students have learning difficulties, but they are amazing, incredible learners.

Our classroom is set up differently than most classrooms to better meet the needs of our students.

In my classroom, we do stations so that my students are in very small groups. In this way, we are better able to meet the needs of each learner.

My classroom focuses on academic learning, but also provides students the opportunities to develop and practice necessary life skills. Developing these skills early helps to promote success for my students.

My Project

In my classroom rotations, we implement sensory time to help students develop coping skills. These stations also allow students to become independent in choice selection and following directions.

Sensory bins, such as the construction zone playset, the garden and critters pretend play, the dinosaur dig, and the outer space bin allow students a unique opportunity to have access to sensory items.

We store these bins and students are able to choose a bin after doing independent work.

During our work times, many of our students need access to small fidget items to help them remain able to focus on learning. Textured adhesive calm sensory stickers would allow students to have calming items at their desks. The stretch and pull stress balls are another creative way for students to have sensory needs met.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
