This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sensory and fidget toys are proven time and time again to reduce anxiety and improve focus in classrooms. Especially post-pandemic, it is so important to nurture my students' mental wellbeing as well as teach them. My whole class will use these items for brain breaks throughout the week to help them focus and work on their personal regulation, as well as encouraging them to be responsible for themselves. They will be able to take breaks when overwhelmed and use items such as the sensory stickers to reduce distractions of both themselves and classmates while learning at their desks.

Getting this project funded would allow me to provide all my students with sensory-friendly items as well as establish Quiet Corner where students can go to feel safe and calm in the classroom, so they are ready to focus and learn.

It would also provide us with books on mindfulness and breathwork so we can work as a classroom community on emotional regulation.
