Students in my kindergarten classroom come to school excited about learning. Most of my students come from low-income families, and all the students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch. This background can mean that students’ families cannot afford to purchase needed school supplies. Unfortunately, some of the students are experiencing homelessness which can mean that they lack items to meet their most basic needs.
My students deserve to receive the best education possible so that they are able to succeed in school and in life.
These boys and girls have such awesome attitudes, and they try their best every day!
My Project
If you enter my classroom around 10:15 each morning, you will see my kindergarten students sitting around the classroom in small groups, working on various important kindergarten skills. This time of the day is called center time. During center time, students rotate around the room and visit the following centers: phonics, reading, math, writing, computer and fine motor centers. They absolutely love this time of the day because they are able to practice what they have learned, either independently or with a few other students.
My students benefit from working on hands-on activities that allow them to demonstrate their understanding of a concept without filling out a worksheet.
I am requesting materials for the centers which will help my students practice their skills in a worksheet free manner. For the phonics center, I am requesting items like the instant learning centers. These instant learning centers come complete with all the materials needed for students to practice phonics skills. For the math center, I am requesting activities, including the pattern block design cards, number locks and number match-ups, that help students develop their math skills. For the fine motor center, I am requesting materials, including sorting fine motor centers and twist & turn word builders that will help my students develop the muscles in their hands. The step stool will allow my students to easily reach our classroom water fountain. This will help them get a drink after all of the hard work that they do during center time.
Thank you for taking the time to read my project idea!
