Help me give my students some basic supplies to get through the rest of the year, including dry erase markers, twine, glue sticks, a stapler, a 3 hole punch, and more.
We have run out of some basic supplies like Expo dry erase markers. Other classroom materials like our stapler and hole puncher continuously fall apart. I fixed the stapler three times this year, and when I mean fix, I mean the whole thing has exploded and I've figured out how to put it back together with tweezers and reading glasses. It was no fun, and so when it exploded the fourth time, it went in the trash. Now my students and I have to share a tiny, pink, blinged-out stapler that my mom bought me when I was in college. It's cute, but not so cute when 21 kids are trying to staple their pages with it.
This year has been hard on my students' families.
Some extreme situations include homelessness and even prison. When I say it has been hard, it really has been. I've been trying to convince families to send in more supplies like the Expo markers, which we use on a daily basis for math and ELA, but the children come back saying it's too expensive.
We just have to make it through the year. I plan on using the string to help the kids make Mother's Day gifts, and some of the other materials are just for a variety of basic projects and uses. It's almost test prep time as well and the workbooks will come in handy for practice and review. All of the materials and supplies will be used by the students, whether to hang up their work, to create it, or as tool to accomplish things.
If you could see how hard these students are working, you wouldn't think twice. They are kind, innocent, and determined to do well. And I'm determined to get what they need to succeed.
