This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love working with my diverse and unique students every day. My students are hardworking and creative. I want to give my students new opportunities in engineering and computer science.

My teaching career so far has been so busy and rewarding.

I began my career in a middle school teaching math. I then moved to an elementary school where I taught 3rd grade and kindergarten. I then chose to become a teacher librarian, which I have been doing for 11 years. This job combines the best of everything for me. I get to pass on my love of literature to my students, while also integrating technology and research skills. I am so excited about my next opportunity to improve my skills for my students.

My Project

I have the opportunity to attend a summer program to learn how to incorporate a MakerSpace in the library. A MakerSpace allows students to use science, technology, engineering, math, and creativity to solve problems and create new things. This is something I've wanted to bring into my library program for some time.

Attending the Pathfinder Summer Institute will give me the knowledge and training necessary to develop this program for my students.

A MakerSpace will allow my students to develop and use new skills in science and technology. They will become better critical thinkers and problem solvers. In order to do this, I need to attend this Institute to develop my skills.
