My Students

I am a school counselor and I work with all students from kindergarten through 5th grades in a title 1 school in Newark Delaware. I work with children facing many different challenges on a daily basis ranging from academic, social-emotional, economic, and other matters students may be having struggles with daily.

I meet and work with students in their classrooms, the lunchroom, during recess, and sometimes just walking and talking in the hallway.

My days consist of observing students in their classrooms and in the hallways, interacting with them during lunch and recess, and working with students one on one or in small group settings in my office. I support the whole child by helping them to think less of their everyday challenges and to focus more on their academic success.

My Project

I run the backpack program at my school. Where the local food bank delivers bags of food that should cover 2 meals for Saturday and Sunday. Although the food helps the families, it's not enough. The program does not supply them with fresh fruits and vegetables.

With many children from low-income families not getting enough fresh fruits and vegetables at home.

This project would allow me to send more of those foods home for our students and their family members as well. Other things that students could be able to take home are yogurt, cheese sticks, and extra milk. This refrigerator would give us a way to keep these items cold until we give them to the students.
