We use these new resources daily during our small group literacy rotations. For example, students work together to build and read sentences using phonics-based cards, physically tapping and sliding sounds as they decode words. In one moment, a student who typically hesitates with reading was able to confidently read an entire sentence by pointing to each sound and blending it aloud. Another group has been using the mapping boards to break apart and write words sound-by-sound, strengthening the connection between what they hear, read, and write. These tools have made abstract reading skills feel concrete and accessible.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials were first introduced, the excitement was immediate. Students were eager to touch, explore, and start building words and sentences right away. What stood out most was their confidence, students who are usually reluctant to participate were volunteering to try. The visual supports and hands on components removed some of the frustration they often feel and replaced it with curiosity and persistence. It quickly became clear that these resources weren't just \"new,\" they were empowering.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we are continuing to build on these foundational skills by increasing the complexity of the words and sentences students are working with. Students are beginning to apply these strategies to connected text, using the same tapping and mapping techniques as they read short passages. Our next step is helping them transfer these skills into independent reading and writing, so they can approach grade-level tasks with greater confidence and accuracy. When the materials first arrived, the children were buzzing with pure excitement. Seeing their eyes light up at the sight of the vibrant beads, paints, and \"snow\" was a moment I won't soon forget. For many, it felt like a message that someone truly cared about them, which in turn inspired them to pour that same love into the gifts they created for their own families.\r\n\r\nThe room transformed into a bustling workshop filled with creativity and pride. I watched students carefully consider each choice, deciding whether to paint a custom design on an ornament or create a winter scene inside it with snow. The beads quickly became a favorite, inspiring many students to use them not only in their ornaments but also to craft beautiful bracelets for their loved ones.\r\n\r\nThis project did wonders for their self-esteem; you could see their confidence grow as they realized they were capable of creating something beautiful and professional. One of the most moving moments was watching a normally reserved student beam with a sense of accomplishment as they finished a gift, knowing they finally had something special to place under the tree for their parents. We were so inspired that we used all of the supplies donated!\r\n\r\nAs a next step, we are working on a reflective writing project. Managing devices was time-consuming and often distracting, and the clutter of wires posed safety concerns for our students. The new charging stations eliminated these issues by providing a designated, orderly place for each laptop, making our classroom feel calmer and more efficient.\r\n\r\nWith the charging stations in place, students are now able to independently access, return, and charge their devices with confidence. With these new, durable, and well-tuned instruments, students are able to play together successfully, hear accurate pitches, and take pride in using materials that both look and sound professional.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new instruments, their excitement was immediate and contagious. Through rhythm, rhyme, and storytelling, students strengthen language skills that support reading, writing, and vocabulary development. Music also enhances math literacy by helping students recognize patterns, understand fractions through rhythm and beat, and develop sequencing and problem-solving skills.
