My students need 12 double sided self portrait mirrors to explore drawing and painting techniques and improve their observational skills.

My Students

Scholars in the Art Department wish to be able to visually express their identity by creating self portraits. The only problem is they don't have any mirrors.

The Art Department Scholars are invested in and responsive to art projects that are relevant to their lives and tied to their interests.

The charter school is comprised of 98% low-income students from diverse backgrounds and experiences. The 280 Scholars are the founding members of a new charter school which values the arts - seeing its impact on students' imagination, their ability to notice and care about what is happening in the world, and ultimately their sense of urgency and power to effect positive change.

My Project

With the charter school in its first year, the Art Department Scholars are in need of basic artist tools such as self portrait mirrors. If afforded basic supplies, they will have the opportunity to explore their sense of self by leaning about and creating self portraits.

Providing the Art Department Scholars with mirrors will empower them with the opportunity to investigate what makes them unique and important individuals in their community.

Through the creation of self portraits they will develop their fine motor and observational skills and will be exposed to a variety of portrait artists.
