My Students
My classroom consists of wonderful students. Many are from low income socioeconomic backgrounds. However, our test scores aren't low enough to qualify our school for Title I. That is great! I have many aspiring engineers, authors, artists, scientists, and great problem-solvers. We are a Bronze-designation STEM school. My students learn about science, technology, engineering, and math in fun, hands on, cooperative-learning ways. We are learning about animals and their habitats. We discover the answers and what problems scientists still haven't solved, especially for Blue Whales. We write about our ideas to solve those problems and send our ideas to the scientists. We will solve many problems as we grow!
My Project
Sumblox are self-correcting 3-D blocks in the shape numbers which help students to practice their math facts and fluently build basic math skills that will help them throughout their educational careers. They stack and add to 10. If students start with a 2, the only block that will fit is an 8. Then they can manipulate in a hands-on way as they check their math facts and develop fluency. The blocks will also help students with dyslexia see the numbers in a 3-D plane. Students who reverse numbers and need support in writing them can also refer to the shape as they trace it with their fingers and then write the numbers correctly on their page.
