My Students

I am blessed to work in one of the most diverse student populated Secondary schools in the DC Metro area Virginian Public Schools. School year 2019-2020 each and every student will have a computer starting our journey into the 1:1 blended learning environment.

With this donation, my 150 middle school students will continue to come into my room eagerly with excited voices chatting with friends and discussing what place they can work best from today and this futon will offer them 4 more spots that don't have to be a cramped desk and even better give these amazing book loving avid readers an extra special space to relax and read.

I can create a space where learning in a secondary school becomes a place of choosing, to work in a seating or standing style that accommodates your learning style best while also encouraging students to develop collaboration and communication skills which will lead them to success in their endeavors in high school and beyond.

My Project

Imagine you are a middle school student and day after day you go from class to class and sit in an over crowded room and a cramped desk and you are asked to collaborate and create your best learning experiences. Well not in Mrs. vKay's Learning Cafe. When students enter my room it is open seating with a variety of choices. With the funding of this project I can move 3 more desks out of my room and offer a comfortable learning space.

Students are eager to come to the open seating Learning Cafe with free choice seating, and with this futon space they have an awesome space to work together in our Language Arts journey in our 1:1 Blended Learning environment.

Please help me in my dream to give my 150 middle school students an ideal learning environment that is comfortable and feels more like a Cafe or comfy bookstore vice a sterile classroom.
